Ewaste (TV & Computer) Recycling Crisis in NJ – we need your help!!
The recycling of electronic waste (TVs and computers) has reached a crisis point in New Jersey and is why programs, including ours are in danger of closing very soon.
In its current form the New Jersey Electronic Waste Management Act, designed to create free and convenient programs for the recycling of e-waste, has shifted the burden of paying for these programs away from the manufacturers of the equipment and on to our local communities and taxpayers. This has forced many local recycling programs to shut down!
This is not an isolated problem. Today, less than 30% of our residents have access to free recycling. Burlington County’s own program is currently in jeopardy as well.
Solving these problems is important for our taxpayers and our environment. Without effective recycling programs televisions and computers will end up on the side of our roads or in our wooded areas decaying as hazardous waste.
The Burlington County Freeholders have been working with legislators to support a bill that will fix this problem and bring back free TV and computer recycling.
We need your help! Please call your legislators and the Governor’s Office and ask them to keep e-waste recycling free and convenient by voting “YES” for Senate bill 981 and Assembly bill 2375 “Revisions to the Electronic Waste Management Act”.
